With just two days of the Las Vegas Raiders’ opening game against the Baltimore Ravens on Monday Night Football, it’s time to make some predictions.
At first glance, this may seem like a Ravens-favored game. They are coming out of a 2020 campaign that saw them make the NFL Divisional Round and fell to the Tennessee Titans.
In 2020, the rushing game averaged just under 192 yards per game.
However, the Ravens lost the crew that made this possible, running backs JK Dobbins and Justice Hill, and most recently Gus Edwards for the season, the running back body is completely different compared.
Due to those late-season injuries, Ty’Son Williams, who was fighting just to make the roster, will be the Ravens’ starting running back. He will play the first regular season game in the prime time spotlight.
Additionally, the Ravens signed running back Latavius Murray on Friday, adding depth to the now lackluster running backs body.
This is all mentioned because I think the Raiders have the opportunity to take advantage of the weaknesses of the Ravens.
The Ravens will most likely have a game rich in assists on Monday, especially with the uncertainty of new running backs.
The Raiders’ defensive unit, led by defensive coordinator Gus Bradley, will have the opportunity to show they are new and improved against a Ravens ground game that is stuck together at the last minute.
Personally, I think it’s a question of whether the Raiders’ defense can take advantage of the injuries the Ravens have suffered and stop their offense by forcing them to throw the ball the entire game.
The new secondary unit looks promising and could pass its first real big test on Monday Night Football.
I believe the Raiders will win, 24-17.
