Las Vegas Raiders Third Round Possibilities Part 16

0

With no picks in the first two rounds of the 2022 NFL Draft, the Las Vegas Raiders aren’t likely to choose from truly elite prospects.

That’s especially true when looking at offensive line prospects, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t players who can’t plug in and play for the Raiders this coming season.

One potential under-the-radar pick is Louisiana tackle Max Mitchell, who had a bumper year for the Ragin’ Cajuns in 2021.

Mitchell finished last season as the highest-ranked tackle in Pro Football Focus with an overall rating of 94.8.

He allowed just 13 pressures on 430 pass blocks last season, including just one in Louisiana’s opener against Texas, where Mitchell alternated between left and right tackle.

Mitchell won’t blow you away with athleticism, but his technique is as consistent as it gets.

Mitchell is always in control on the court, bringing good body control and flexibility that helps him gain leverage on blocks.

The form of his passing streak is considered one of the best in this draft class, and a quality that could earn Mitchell a chance to start right away.

One thing Mitchell will need to work on once he is drafted is his weight, as at 6-6 years old he weighs only 297 pounds.

This lack of weight contributes to an average playing strength at the point of attack, which can result in Mitchell being knocked down on contact.

There’s also the inevitable trepidation in the level of competition Mitchell faced in Louisiana, with Texas being the only Power-5 program they played in last season.

Despite this, Mitchell has proven himself as a competent and reliable blocker at either tackle point.

Teams worried about his size might decide to move him to guard, but he could stay at the tackle if he adds the required muscle.

For the Raiders, they could use him in any spot, with the right tackle being especially important given the team’s struggles to fill that spot last season.

Mitchell may never be a mauler, but he fits the mold of a player who understands how to run and be a plug-in player.
