Long-term, multi-faceted partnership with NPHY includes over $ 1.7 million in cumulative funding from Sands Cares to tackle high rate of youth homelessness in southern Nevada
Northampton, MA –News Direct– Las Vegas Sands
LAS VEGAS, July 19, 2021 / 3BL Media / – Las Vegas Sands (NYSE: LVS) today announced the continuation of its multi-year partnership with the Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth (NPHY) with a donation of $ 300,000 to help most vulnerable youth in southern Nevada. Sands Cares funding will help NPHY scale up services and seek long-term solutions to help make the incidence of youth homelessness rare, brief, non-recurring, and treated fairly, as reported in Southern Nevada Plan to End Youth Homelessness.
Commemorating NPHY’s 20th anniversary in 2021 and its outstanding record of leadership in the fight to end youth homelessness, Sands’ investment focuses on expanding and supporting NPHY’s key programs, resources to increase organizational capacity and the addition of housing capacity for homeless youth. Since prioritizing youth homelessness as Sands Cares’ main initiative in 2015, Sands has donated over $ 1,770,000 to NPHY.
The cumulative 2021 Sands Cares donation includes $ 100,000 to close the NPHY housing expansion campaign, which will allow NPHY to offset rising real estate costs to acquire the planned transitional housing facility. This funding is essential to help NPHY cope with the changing market conditions that created a shortfall from the campaign’s original fundraising target. Sands had previously donated $ 100,000 as a startup investor in NPHY’s housing expansion campaign in 2019 and engaged the Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation as another startup partner with the establishment. a matching grant of $ 100,000 from the foundation to encourage community participation in the fundraising campaign.
The remainder of the 2021 Sands Cares donation is for the production of the Southern Nevada Youth Homelessness Summit; expanding NPHY’s overnight staffing model for its Safe Place programs, emergency shelters and transitional housing; and infrastructure support for critical operational areas such as grant administration, finance and facilities management.
Sands Cares’ current funding areas build on strategic initiatives established during the partnership with NPHY, which included helping NPHY launch the Movement to End Youth Homelessness, establish and co- present the annual Southern Nevada Youth Homelessness Summit and to be a primary funder of resources to facilitate and develop the Southern Nevada plan to end youth homelessness.
Sands has also consistently supported NPHY’s core offerings such as its emergency shelter, drop-in center and transition program. According to NPHY, this long-term commitment has allowed the organization to grow exponentially and expand its service offerings in multiple areas, including increasing the opening hours of reception centers, doubling of emergency shelter beds and strengthening of enveloping services such as homelessness therapy and support. The partnership has enabled NPHY to directly impact the lives of over 1,900 young people through essential services supported by Sands.
“Without Sands, we would not have been able to establish the Movement and the Summit. Yet Sands’ involvement as a catalyst for expanding our offerings runs much deeper than these more visible programs, ”said Arash Ghafoori, Executive Director of NPHY. “Sands has helped us develop our back-end infrastructure to sustainably support program expansion – a critical component to successful nonprofit management that is often overlooked. The company has been a true partner in the fight to end youth homelessness in Southern Nevada, not only as a donor, but as an investor and think tank in our work to move this forward. devastating problem in our community.
Another facet of Sands’ long-term engagement with NPHY is the organization’s participation in the invitation-only Sands Cares Accelerator, a signature Sands Cares initiative that supports growing nonprofits in the world. expanding their ability to have a greater impact in the community. NPHY will graduate from the three-year Sands Cares accelerator at the end of 2021 after achieving future sustainability through the growth and refinement of its operational infrastructure; diversification of offers, particularly in the field of advocacy and awareness; and initiating a strategic planning process to crystallize the future makeup of the organization.
Last year, Sands Cares provided NPHY with critical $ 200,000 in funding at the height of the pandemic to maintain operations and address emerging needs as NPHY scrambled to establish interim measures for youth without a net family, school, employer and other support systems that have been suspended or because of COVID-19. Funding for Sands Cares was also critical as NPHY faced intense operational impact with the loss of in-person volunteers and increased volatility in donor support and other resources affected by the pandemic.
“We are deeply committed to making an impact on the incidence of youth homelessness in the Las Vegas Valley, and NPHY has been our strategic and valuable partner in leading this charge,” said Ron Reese, vice president senior in global communications and corporate affairs at Sands. “Our continued investment is representative of the extraordinary results we have seen NPHY achieve for vulnerable youth in our community, as well as its leadership in developing long-term solutions to address the problem. This partnership has been one of the most impactful Sands Cares initiatives we have undertaken.
