Noem says tourists come to South Dakota for the freedom; Freedom Fest returns to Las Vegas – Dakota Free Press

Governor Noem tweeted on Wednesday that “South Dakota leads the nation in tourism growth because we respect our people and their rights and freedoms.” This blurb was a warm-up for his big Friday propaganda piece on tourism in South Dakota, which itself is a warm-up for National Travel & Tourism Week next week.

The Governor’s love for Freedom™ (which is code for “We’d rather make money on tourism than prevent coronavirus deaths) explains how she got Freedom Fest organizers to abandon Las Vegas and to organize their 2021 libertarian rally in Rapid City. Noem was able to speak there, as was Larry Arnn, president of Hillsdale College, which Noem commissioned to rewrite South Dakota’s social studies standards.

But South Dakota’s respect for rights and freedoms should only have a passing influence on Freedom Festers. Even though the racist Grand Gateway Hotel in Rapid City continually promotes Freedom Fest (most recently just four days ago, April 25) in its cycle of Travel posts on Twitter, Freedom Fest will not bring any business to the Grand Gateway or any other hoteliers in the Black Hills this year. Freedom Fest returns to Vegas this year:

Freedom Fest 2022 is scheduled for July 13-16 in Las Vegas at the luxurious Mirage, where rooms range from $79 Tuesday night July 12 to $371 Friday night July 15, with an additional resort fee of $39 per night. night (although Freedom Fest can get you special rates ranging from $98 on Tuesday nights to $178 on Friday nights and get you $10 off each night’s resort fee). This is in addition to the $499 early bird rate available through June 30.

Maybe Freedom Fest just wanted to come back to Las Vegas for one last shindig at the Mirage before Hard Rock Entertainment, which is buying the place for $1.075 billion, bulldozes the volcano and turns it into who knows what. Next, Freedom Festers will flock to South Dakota where they will experience all that Kristi Noem has to offer from Freedom™ from Censorship and Statism and Taxation.

Or maybe “freedom” as an enduring tourist attraction was the real mirage….
