The Grammys bring the music world to Las Vegas

However, after the Will Smith slap incident that overshadowed the Oscars, it was time for awards season to get back on track.

Comedian, TV host and Grammy nominee Chelsea Handler told Reuters “Well, I think it was a big distraction for a lot of people, so hopefully tonight there won’t be not that kind of distraction. I think people really need to be in the moment of who they are and be able to enjoy the moment they are in and not be overshadowed by something like that. Nobody really deserves that. . When you work so hard and get an award, you want people to hear what you have to say and be able to celebrate you.”

Singer-songwriter HER won Best Traditional R’n’B Performance. She told Reuters “It always feels surreal. It always feels like my first time on stage, like even just finding out that I won the best traditional R’n’B performance, I feel say ‘No way I won’. It will never get old for me.”

Blues singer Bonnie Raitt received the lifetime achievement award at the ceremony.

Raitt told Reuters “When they honored me with all those Grammys 30 years ago at the time, it kind of changed my life, you know. You know, I hadn’t failed before, but it lifted me to a level where I could really raise a lot of money and attention for my causes, pay my band better, move to Northern California where I always wanted to live and I don’t didn’t expect this award for all of my accomplishments, so it was really especially nice to get it right as I release a new album.”

The ceremony included tributes to composer Stephen Sondheim with Rachel Zegler of “West Side Story,” as well as a memorial to Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins.

Zegler paid tribute to Sondheim on the red carpet, while many rock nominees opened up about their fondness for Hawkins.
