Three bold predictions for Las Vegas Raiders in 2022

Ahead of the 2022 season, Pro Football Focus makes three bold predictions for every NFL team.

The AFC West and Las Vegas Raiders were next yesterday, and the predictions they made could certainly lead to debate.

The first prediction isn’t all that shocking, claiming quarterback Derek Carr would have the highest-rated PFF season of his career.

With wide receiver Davante Adams now on the team, it gives Carr the kind of No. 1 target he needs to reach his career peak.

Carr arguably has one of the best receiving corps to use and a very talented group of running backs.

Wide receiver Hunter Renfrow, tight end Darren Waller and running back Josh Jacobs all have Pro Bowl appearances on their resumes.

The only thing that could stand in the way of that, however, is a flawed offensive line, which brings us to PFF’s second bold prediction.

It would be that the Raiders offensive line would end up as one of the five worst units in the league.

It’s also no surprise that that prediction stuck, as the Raiders’ offensive line is one of the team’s biggest question marks this season.

No significant changes were made to a struggling o line last season, making it important for starting starters to take the next step.

Offensive lineman Alex Leatherwood will have to do it in the worst possible way, leaving the most pressure of any lineman in the league last year.

As for the third prediction, it’s something that can only mean good things for the revamped Raiders defense.

It’s cornerback Nate Hobbs making his first Pro Bowl appearance, and the sophomore has the skills to succeed.

Playing mostly from the slot machine last season, Hobbs consistently ranked 5th in the PFF cornerback rankings last season.

He’s a physical tackle who can be used on blitzes and doesn’t give up much in coverage, allowing just 8.5 yards per catch as a rookie.

This type of versatile skill is tailor-made for defensive coordinator Patrick Graham’s defense, who will likely see Hobbs used in a variety of roles.
