While visitor numbers to Las Vegas have yet to reach pre-pandemic levels, average daily room rates have exceeded 2019 averages, the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority reported on Wednesday.

The 3.112 million visitors to southern Nevada in November was a big increase from the previous year, but 11.3% lower than November 2019.

“November room rates approached $ 156, exceeding November 2019 levels by 15.5%,” said Kevin Bagger, vice president of the LVCVA research center.

For the 11 months of 2021, the volume of visitors is 29.23 million, an increase of 64.3% compared to 2020, but 25.2% less than before the 2019 pandemic. has no chance that the 2021 visitor volume will exceed the record volume, set in 2016 at 42.9 million.

Two main reasons for the decline in visits: fewer international travelers throughout the year and virtually no participation in the congress.

While conventions and trade shows returned to city boardrooms in June, LVCVA did not release any number of shows, pending verification of show producer participation.

The Specialty Equipment Market Association – a major automotive aftermarket trade show known as SEMA – reported an attendance of 114,000 people at its show last month, but LVCVA did not register any attendance at the show. convention in November.

While the volume of visitors is declining, room rates are on the rise.

Room rates started increasing in April, with steady percentage increases every month since. For the first 11 months of 2021, the average rate was $ 135.98, 64.3% higher than in the first 11 months of 2020.

Average room rates have exceeded 2019 levels this year for every month since June.

Hotel occupancy rates in November, down slightly from October, were up 38.3 percentage points from November 2020, but down 10.6 points from November 2019.

LVCVA said the drop followed the pattern of high occupancy on weekends but low for midweek stays, reflecting sluggish traffic at conventions.

Overall, hotel occupancy rates hit 77.6% for the month, with weekends still registering high levels at 90.7%, while midweek occupancy increased. decreased by one month to 71.9% from 77.5% in October, ”Bagger said.

Other visit trends were mixed with almost all indicators below October levels but above November 2020 amounts.

Air passenger traffic at Harry Reid International Airport fell 4.6% from October to 3.989 million. This was up 120.7% from November 2020, but still down 4.3% from November 2019.

Car traffic on major highways leading to Las Vegas, with a daily average of 134,567 vehicles, increased 5.6% from October, 16% from November 2020 and 16.9% from November 2019. The Nevada Department of Transportation, which collects the data, says traffic matters. include local traffic as well as visitors to the city.

Much of the traffic was recorded at the California-Nevada border near Primm on Interstate 15. NDOT reported 51,814 vehicles per day in November, up 11.3% from October, 23.2% compared to November 2020 and 17.2% compared to November 2019.

Visitor volumes, occupancy rates and average daily room rates plunged in Laughlin in November compared to October.

The LVCVA reported that Laughlin had 93,800 visitors in November, down 8.8% from October and 33% from November 2019.

The city’s occupancy rate was 45.3%, down 2.8 percentage points from October and 12.1 points from November 2019.

The average daily room rate of $ 53.55 was down 19.2% from October, but up 17.8% from November 2019.
